IAC Email Message November 23, 2015

Our community begins this new week with a heavy heart. In recent days, terrorists have taken the lives of innocents around the world in horrific attacks in Paris, in Mali, and in our homeland of Israel.

Among the dead is Ezra Schwartz – an 18-year old American Yeshiva student, remembered for his extraordinary compassion, strength, and love of Israel – who was shot by terrorists as he volunteered delivering food parcels to Israeli soldiers last week. Over the weekend, we saw a wave of stabbing attacks in which many were injured, and 21-year old Hadar Buchris of Safed was murdered.

Other Israelis who have been murdered by terrorists in recent days include Ya’akov Don, a father of four and a teacher from Alon Shvut; Reuven Aviram from Ramle; and Rabbi Aharon Yesiab from Tel Aviv.

Together, we mourn the loss of those who have been taken from us. With clear conviction, we stand with those people and nations who fight terrorism – and against those who justify and support it.

The critical importance of our community’s voice is particularly clear at a moment like this. Our Movement must continue to strengthen the U.S.-Israel alliance. We must safeguard the State of Israel, as it stands on the frontlines in the global fight against terrorism, which threatens decent people everywhere.

In the coming week, our thoughts and prayers will remain with those killed and injured – and with their loved ones. May the memory of the fallen be a blessing.
