Signature Israeli Books on Film: Apples, Doves, Aliya, and Identity

The IAC Library invites you to a Monday Night Film Series based on signature Israeli books by outstanding Israeli authors. The movies are, by turns, heartfelt, dramatic, satirical and humorous, covering different aspects of contemporary Israeli history and the country’s diverse society. The events will include introductions to the movies and the books, followed by audience discussion in English.

Join us whether you have already read the books – in Hebrew or in English - or have been “waiting for the movie”. Join us for the screening and discussion of:

Saleh Shabbati (1964) סאלח שבתי is an iconic film starring Chaim Topol (of “Fiddler on the Roof”) in the title role. Gentle humor and sharp satire take turns in showing the early period of mass Jewish Aliya from Arab countries. (Based on satirical columns by Ephraim Kishon)(Monday, June 1st 2020)

The movies are in Hebrew, with English subtitles.

Events start at 8:00 pm

Tickets - $12.00 each
