Orly Lewis

Chief Operating Officer of the Weinstein JCC in Richmond VA

Orly’s Jewish communal work began with the program “Operation Exodus” which worked to resettle hundreds of Jews from the former Soviet Union who came to Richmond, Virginia through HIAS.  Her passion for the Jewish community led her to a 20 year career at the Weinstein JCC where she currently serves as COO. She received the president’s award from the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond in recognition of her commitment and devotion to the Richmond Coalition for Jewish Education and was also recognized as a Distinguished Director of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.

Orly was born in Israel to a family of Tunisian immigrants who immigrated to Israel in the 1950s, leaving behind their businesses and homes in the capital city of Tunis to flee the growing persecution against Jews. She has been invited to tell the story of her family’s harrowing journey from Tunisia to audiences at Virginia Commonwealth University and Georgetown University Hillel.

She received her degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Richmond.
